current Eurovision thoughts

Moldova: Song's nice enough. Video looks like someone turned on the TV to Raising Arizona, fell asleep five minutes in, and woke up to a softcore flick.

Armenia: Song good; video ripped out my heart and stomped on it.

Belgium: Song had interesting setting; video was decent.

Netherlands: Second year in a row that their offering has sounded like something I'd expect to hear on an American country music radio station. Can't even remember five minutes later what was in the video.

Finland: Finally, a song that's not in English! Perfectly fine headbanging music.

Greece: Pretty song, and I can see it going far, but doesn't thrill me.

Estonia: Nice style; the lyrics got dull after a bit, but I liked the retro style of the music and the b&w video.

Macedonia: My favorite so far. Lovely song. Cool video

Serbia: I like the song, more and more on repeated listenings. I like the idea of the video.

Belarus: Dear Dr. Who fandom: If you do not remake this video as a DW fanvid, then you are not the fandom I thought you were.

Russia: Lovely song.

Denmark: Another nice retro-feeling song, reminescent of Huey Lewis and the News to my ear.

Albania: Nice song; I like the tears-in-reverse effect in the video.

Romania: 1. Hurrah! Use of non-English language! 2. Damn, that video made me cry.

Georgia: Nice song, but the video would've worked better if it were clear from the beginning that the dogs weren't taxidermied.

Lithuania: Nice song. Video nothing special.

Ireland: Meh. It's nice enough, but not jumping out at me.

San Marino: Musically interesting. Nice video.

Montenegro: Musically interesting and lovely. Yay for non-English! Beautiful scenery, but the combination of older lounge-lizard-looking guy and beautiful young women creeped me out. Still, I now want to visit Montenegro.

Malta: Nice song.

Norway: I'm not crazy about the lyrics; it makes me think of the terrible poetry I wrote as a kid.

Portugal: Nice song.

Czech Rep: Nice song.

Israel: One of the songs I really like; the bridges in Middle Eastern style appeal to me.

Latvia: Nice song. Meh video.

Azerbaijan: Lovely song. Meh video.

Iceland: What's Clara Oswald doing in a Eurovision video? Nice enough song.

Sweden: I love the style of the song -- spaghetti western meets Europop. Video does nothing for me, but Middle Son will love it because it has lyrics written out.

Switzerland: Tune okay; lyrics nice. This might end up on my "cheering music" playlist.

Cyprus: Decent song, though I knock it down a notch because the tune and style reminds me of a song I hate. Video nothing special, but I'm happy to spend a few minutes staring at the singer.

Slovenia: Nice song. I'm the wrong orientation to get anything from the video.

Poland: Lovely song. The video made me look up the singer for backstory.

Australia: Good style; it's not my favorite, but it's very well done.

Austria: Another song that reminds me of a song I don't care for.

France: Hurrah, France, the one country that can be relied on to do a song that is NOT in English. Also, a lovely song and a thoughtful video.

Germany: I didn't care for the singer's vocal style at first, but I think it may grow on me with relistens.

Italy: Excellent singers. Weird video.

Spain: Song: Lovely, and hurrah for non-English. Video: What happens when you put Ladyhawke, LOTR, Frozen, and Gladiator into a blender.

England: Fun song, recommended for fans of Squirrel Nut Zippers. Video makes me think Rocky Horror in a 1920s setting.
