the 366 meme, part twenty-one: May 20-26

May 20: If someone you were trying to impress was coming over to your home for dinner, what would you make for them? (Please include the recipe!) This is a hard one, because Spouse is the dinner cook in our household, and I'm sufficiently out of practice that I'd be hesitant to cook something. Also, it depends on the guest; are we assuming an omnivore with no dietary restrictions, or are there other factors to consider? Overall, I wouldn't try to impress a guest with my cooking, but assuming no allergies I might make them no-bake chocolate cookies for dessert -- easy, quick, and tasty. Recipe is similar to this one, though I use less sugar and more cocoa powder.

In my family, there's a chicken dish called Chicken Parisienne that Dad always says is the meal Mom hooked him with. It's basically chicken cooked in a sauce of cream of mushroom soup and white wine. This recipe sounds plausible, and Mom certainly had that cookbook when I was young.

May 21: Do you believe in soul mates? Nope. There are people that I've clicked with surprisingly quickly, so I can see where the idea comes from, but I don't believe there is one person (or even a set of people) who I am Meant To Be With, whether as lovers or as friends or as creative partners.

May 22: What small thing can you plan to do tomorrow that you’ve never done before? Say a sentence that I've never before uttered.

May 23: What would your teen self think of the adult you’ve become? I'm not sure whether they'd be disappointed or thrilled. I haven't published a novel, I no longer do musical hobbies and my career looks nothing like what my younger self hoped for; this would horrify them. On the other hand, they'd be delighted that I can spin and would be really, really surprised at the number of people I know from online. And they'd probably be a bit impressed that I'm taking improv classes; that never crossed their mind as a possibility.

May 24: What’s the biggest problem you’re facing today? Guessing a couple weeks in advance: exhaustion from wrangling kids all weekend and frustration from no alone time. (On the actual day: Better than I expected, but yeah, a variant on this.)

May 25: What two colors do you think look best together? There's a bright turquoisey-blue and yellow combination that I absolutely love together. Kind of like the colors of Claude Monet's kitchen, but a greener blue. If we expand to three colors, bright deep greenish blue (think DMC 995) + royal purple + fuschia = my one true color combo.

May 26: Popcorn or pretzels? Popcorn.
