the 366 meme, part ten: Mar 4-10
Mar. 10th, 2020 11:42 pmMar 4: What’s the most ridiculous way you’ve ever been injured? I once stabbed myself in the foot by jumping off the bed and landing on a double-pointed knitting needle.
Mar 5: It’s Learn What Your Name Means Day. So, what does your name mean? Do you think it fits you? My full name could plausibly translate as "warrior of the castle on the plain". I do not give enough of a shit about anything to be a warrior, but I like it nonetheless.
Mar 6: Who is your favorite celebrity chef? Why do you like them? I don't watch enough cooking shows to recognize most current celebrity chefs. I have fond memories of the Two Fat Ladies show, because they seemed to be having such a great time. When I had nursing infants and was parked in front of PBS half the day, I enjoyed Lidia Bastianich's show because the food always looked great; I also liked Julia Collin Davison and Bridget Lancaster on America's Test Kitchen.
Mar 7: What is the worst medical procedure you’ve ever had? The second session of removing a plantar wart, and walking back to my apartment afterward.
Mar 8: It’s International Women’s Day. Who is a woman you greatly admire and why do you admire her? Theresa May. No, not the former British PM; the former editor-in-chief of the University of Texas Press. A powerhouse of an editor, with a keen eye for important books, the ability to write an exquisitely polite letter that conveyed the message "up yours, asshole", and a huge amount of creative talent. It was a privilege to work with her, and I hope to one day be 10% as amazing as her.
Mar 9: What’s your favorite movie quote? "Why am I the only one who has that dream?", from Real Genius
Mar 10: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of fear? "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." Followed by "Fear is the mind-killer." Now, when it comes to actual things I fear? Failing at something I should have succeeded at. I'm fine with failing at something that was impossible, or even that was borderline possible but that could've gone either way. But failling at something important that I could reasonably have done successfully, if I'd tried just a little harder or focused a little more closely? That's scary.
