Jun 17: If you were chosen to be the first human to make contact with aliens, would you want to? I'm not sure. How much do we know about these aliens? Are we talking in-person contact or radio contact, here or there? Are we confident that I will not be slowly and painfully slaughtered? Do we know enough about the alien culture that I can be reasonably sure I won't inadvertently start an interplanetary war? And are we assuming sentient aliens, or am I going to be the first person whose immune system gets to process an alien microbe?
Jun 18: Would you rather travel a hundred years in the past or a hundred years in the future? Tough call. I'm not terribly interested in experiencing a hundred years ago as a woman, although it'd still be better than 150 years ago, but if I'm dropped off in the right city I could ask around and see if anyone knew anything about a dead-end ancestor's parents. I'd like to see what a hundred years from now is like, but if I find that everything sucks, that'd be hope-killing.
And if I've got the time machine anyway? 75 years in the past. Meet my paternal grandmother and see if I can find out who my paternal grandfather actually is -- the person on Dad's birth certificate, or someone completely different.
Jun 19: When you take a shower, do you let the water warm up before you step in, or do you turn the water on after you step in? In winter, I direct the shower flow into a bucket until it's warmed up. In summer, straight out of the tap is warm enough.
Jun 20: What quality makes you feel fierce and powerful? How does that quality manifest itself in your life? Huh. I'm not sure I get this question. There isn't a quality that makes me feel fierce, though discovering that I had gained the ability to get up from the floor without using my hands did make me feel pretty darn strong.
Jun 21: At the summer solstice, the light begins to lessen. What in your life would you like to see decrease in the coming months? The feeling that my brain is going to chew off its own leg. Loneliness and isolation. Wishful thinking about things that aren't going to happen or that I can't affect (as opposed to wishful thinking that makes me get off my rear and do something).
Jun 22: What was your favorite piece of playground equipment when you were little? A platform with poles and a slide at my elementary school's playground. We used it as a fort.
Jun 23: Chocolate or vanilla? Or something else? Ice cream? Mexican vanilla. Cake? Chocolate. Pudding? Banana.
