Jul 8: How much do you “bring work home”? Do you work at home after work hours, or do you leave it at the office? I bring it home as little as possible. Even now, though I've been working from home since mid-March, once I've done my hours for the day I shut down work email and databases.

Jul 9: Is there anything you fear that most people don’t seem to be afraid of? Leaking water pipes in my house -- Das Boot is one of the most terrifying movies I've ever seen.

Jul 10: Would you rather be the funniest person in the room or the smartest? Funniest. I can probably influence people more by making them laugh than by attempting to out-reason them. (And frankly? I've been the smartest person in the room. It's overrated at best.)

Jul 11: What would be included in your ideal breakfast? Waffles made with the recipe my parents use (takes three mixing bowls to make, so only a special occasion meal, but utterly delicious).

Jul 12: How do you decide about meals in your family? Who does the shopping? Family meals are Spouse's task, as is the main grocery shopping; I'll stop by the grocery store on the way home from work to get snacks and treats, and occasionally I'll take the list and do the main grocery run. Spouse is the meal planner; I don't always agree with his choices, but I cheerfully accept that as the tradeoff for never having to decide what's for supper.

Jul 13: What’s the notification tone on your phone for calls? Texts? My cell phone is perpetually off unless I'm trying to call someone or expecting a call. I get calls on the home phone, and if I want someone to text me I give them my Google Voice number that'll cc my email so I'll actually see it. When my cell does ring, it's the default tone.

Jul 14: Would you rather know how you’re going to die or when you’re going to die? How, assuming I'd know the broader causes and not just the immediate cause -- for example, if I'm going to die from being hit by a car, is it because I have dementia and wander into the street, or because I faint from overheating while crossing, or just bad luck of a careless driver? My long-term planning will be different if I'm going to die as a result of Alzheimers than if I'm going to die of a sudden massive heart attack while dancing; if I know I'll die from a particular kind of cancer, then if I'm diagnosed with it I'll probably forgo extreme treatment and go straight to palliative care.

"When" would be useful for planning as well, of course (and if that date turned out to be "next Tuesday", well, I'd change a *lot* of my plans for the week), but knowing my death date doesn't really tell me how much useful time I've got left; it's just a maximum. What if my death date is ten years from now, but I get hit by a truck in a year and spend my remaining nine years in a coma?
