the 2021 daily meme, week 1

1. What’s one question you hate being asked? "Will you knit me a pair of socks?" especially when asked by a stranger who sees me knitting. No. Not even if you pay me. Yes, I knit and crochet things for other people; if I'm closely related to you or am good friends with you, and if I think you'll appreciate the work and the finished item, then sure, I'll make you something (if I have time, and on my own schedule). Random stranger? I'll give you a pint of my blood, but I won't knit you socks.
2. Has the media influenced your view on the world? Well, if they're any good at what they do, then certainly; if I go to a given news source, the stories they choose to emphasize are the ones I'll find out about most easily. Just like my view of my neighborhood's safety will be different if I read NextDoor posts than if I look at an actual graph of crimes in the area.
3. What could make other people angry about you? Anything, I assume. There are assholes who'll get angry because I'm not their religion or I don't share their politics or I don't act the way they think a middle-aged woman should act or I don't automatically defer to them.
4. Do you miss anything from your teenage years? The extensive free time by myself.
5. What about your current life situation makes you feel grateful? I bought a house before my city became too expensive for people in my income bracket to afford houses.
6. What is distracting you? Everything.
7. What past failure actually proved to be a blessing? Probably flunking out of grad school after first year. I'd never have made it in that field, and I found my actual career field less than six months after receiving the "sorry, you didn't do well enough to stay in the program" letter.
