I'm trying to remember who it was who commented that it was hard to mix SFF and mystery, because it's difficult to make it clear to the reader whether something that seems unusual is a clue to the mystery or an aspect of the worldbuilding.
I liked Ancillary Justice and should read the rest of the series one of these months. (And reread AJ, because I'm sure I missed a lot of details of the worldbuilding the first time.)
