castironGot the DVD for my ex for Father's Day and am watching it before I give it to him (yes, he knows) Sundry random thoughts:
1. Overall, good job of creating a new set of stories in a new setting while keeping true to its roots in ACD canon. I can see these characters as Conan Doyle's born 100-125 years later.
2. That said, while the mysterious Chinese gang in tBB feels like something ACD would've made up...well, it's another reminder that I want to read Saïd some year when I have the brain cycles available.
3. I'm really glad I'm seeing Sherlock late, because if I hadn't known about the cliffhanger I would've thrown something at the TV.
4. Interesting to contrast this Sherlock with Sherlock of the 2009 movie. I read the 2009 Sherlock as, if not necessarily a high-functioning autistic or Aspie, definitely someone who has the sensory issues that often come with autism. TV Sherlock could be many things, but is not remotely on the autism spectrum. (TV version in general was much easier to watch than the 2009 version, which had me going "can you give my brain 0.2 seconds to register this scene before you switch to a different camera angle??)
5. One tGG quibble: Is it really plausible that someone could have been standing in the middle of a busy street with wires hanging out the bottom of their coat and not been noticed?
6. Love Lestrade. Love how the police act towards Sherlock. Love the drugs bust in aSiP. ACD canon doesn't show the police very sympathetically, but this version, I think, does.
7. Love Watson, but would want to keep well away from him in real life. No sane person would put up with Holmes, and that's probably the point.
8. Both Cumberbatch and Freeman are younger than me. My cougar years are clearly approaching at high speed.
9. There is not enough fic about Anthea.
10. While I'm not going to get cable or seek torrent sites in order to see season 2 when it airs, I'm at the very least buying it for my ex for Father's Day next year....
