January 29. What was your favorite subject in school? Math, with the sciences and foreign languages close runners-up. I hated everything history and social science until my junior year in high school, when I got the utterly phenomenal American history teacher who put the story in history. (The same teacher is why my brother, who was a smart but unmotivated student through much of high school, ended up earning a history Ph.D and is now a professor.)

30. What websites did you visit most frequently this week? Microsoft Office Online, Toodledo, Habitica, Facebook, Dreamwidth, WikiTree, FamilySearch, Ravelry (Herdwick mode makes it bearable for me, though it doesn't solve all the usability issues other folks have experienced).

31. What are your favorite things in general? Yarn and fiber, chocolate, notebooks, pens with brightly colored ink, cheese enchiladas, cobalt blue and turquoise colored glass, stuff with owls on it, nifty mugs, handthrown pottery with cool glazing.

February 1. What are your favorite indoor activities? Genealogy and needlecrafts. (Of course, these can be done outside too, depending on the weather.)

2. What are you favorite outdoors activities? Walking and stargazing. I've never been an outdoorsy person, especially after getting a really bad case of poison ivy that wasn't even from a wilderness area. I wouldn't mind hiking if I could find hiking boots that fit well enough to be comfortable for miles, but camping is not my thing.

3. How do you feel about plastic surgery? I think people should have the right to get plastic surgery if they choose. I also don't think that there should be pressure on women in their 60s to look like they're in their 30s, or on people in general to conform with particular beauty standards. When we get into the question of who pays for it....can of worms. I'm 100% fine with my insurance payments funding plastic surgery to repair someone's injury or congenital malformation, or to change a body part that's working perfectly well but that is causing other serious problems (breast reduction surgery would fall under here, and I'd classify gender reassignment surgery here as well). I'm not so sure about paying for, say, a nose job on someone who's a normal-looking and even attractive person to start with but who isn't satisfied with their appearance.

4. What responsibilities do you think the media have, if any? Report the facts. Don't lie. Be clear about your biases.
