the 366 meme, part twenty-six: June 24-30
Jul. 1st, 2020 04:13 pmHalfway through.
Jun 24: Have you ever deleted a post on social media because you had a low percentage of "likes"? Nope. I work on the default assumption that no one's giving a post more than a quick skim, so any like/comment/kudo at all is a bonus. I'm posting because I want to put something out there; I hope people will be interested, but if not, the point was to get something into the world, not to get a specific reaction.
Now, if the question is actually saying "have you deleted a post because a lot of people vehemently disagreed with you?", again, nope. I have gone back and edited a post the next day because on further reflection I decided I had said something assholish, but in the cases I've done that, no one had reacted to what I said or how I said it; that was my own second thoughts.
Jun 25: Do you enjoy “roughing it” types of vacations such as camping or hiking, or are you more of a five-star hotel/cruise sort of vacationer? If I have to pick one or the other, it'd be the fancy hotel/cruise. But my ideal vacation is more the modest and comfortable hotel in an interesting city where I can walk around and eat good food and see lovely things. I like nature, but only if I can get out of it quickly. I don't like bug bites or the smell of bug repellent. A hike can be a lot of fun and lead to some beautiful views, and when I finish for the day I want a hot shower and a comfy sleeping place.
Jun 26: If you could become a new “side character” in any novel, which novel would you be a part of? Tough call -- there are a slew of fictional worlds that I love to read about but would hate to live in, especially as part of the general population rather than as the protagonist. Maybe Janet Kagan's Hellspark; I wouldn't mind seeing Flashfever and being one of the unnamed survey team members. Or Caroline Stevermer's A College of Magics; being a student at Greenlaw for a few years sounds lovely, even though I suspect I'd have no talent for magic whatsoever.
Jun 27: When you mentally go to your “happy place,” what does it look like in your mind? A hilltop with a view of rolling countryside.
Jun 28: Do you prefer working alone or as part of a team? Both have their advantages. When I'm working alone, I'm not dependent on other people's schedules; it's all on me, and I get all the blame and all the credit. When I'm working as part of a team, assuming it's a good team, I get the advantage of other people doing the parts they're better at than I am, and of having other folks to bounce ideas off of.
Jun 29: What is your least favorite musical band? Why don’t you like them? I'm trying to think of a band I've heard enough of to say that I dislike the band and not just that particular song. All I can come up with is Rod Stewart. Musically he's fine, but the lyrics of so many of his songs combined with how he sings them make me feel icky.
Jun 30: The year is half over now. What’s been the highlight of 2020 for you so far? Improv classes. They have been extremely fun, and while it's frustrating the heck out of me that I can't do them in person right now, online ones at least keep me feeling like I'm not regressing.

Date: 2020-07-01 09:38 pm (UTC)Agreed! I love hiking, I even love toughish hiking. Last summer's holiday involved gingerly lowering myself into a cold bath at the end of the day in the hope it would help reduce the ache! But after said hike I want to get clean and I want to sleep well. I'm a light sleeper and I hate sleeping bags, being woken up early by the sun through a tent or effing birds calling, I don't want to have to carry my stuff, and I do the bloody washing up all the rest of the year, I don't need to do it under even less convenient conditions on holiday. I'd hate a cruise, but I wouldn't say no to a 5 star hotel in central Florence.
