castiron: Hold still when I subject you to my opinion. (opinionation)

Catching up....

Oct 28: What stage play is your favorite? I haven't seen enough to have an opinion, though I find Arms and the Man very entertaining.

Oct 29: For $100,000 (or equivalent in your currency) would you put on 40 pounds/18 kg and keep it on for 3 years? How much money, if any, would induce you to put on 100 pounds/45 kg for at least a year? I'm already far over what's considered a healthy weight for someone of my size, and adding this much more would subject me to some actual health problems -- at the very least, my mobility would be impaired. And given how my body works, I doubt I'd be able to lose the weight later. So, no.

Oct 30: If you were president/prime minister/supreme leader etc. of your country, what is the first thing you would do? End Daylight Savings Time, uniting people from all points of the political spectrum.

Oct 31: What’s the scariest movie you’ve ever seen? Diabolique. I knew exactly what was going to happen in the climactic scene before it started, because it'd been clearly telegraphed, but in the moment it was still terrifying.

Nov 1: Who is one of your “saints”—a person who was very influential in your faith, spirituality, or life philosophy? Madeleine L'Engle. Her writings have helped me formulate my view of $DEITY. She was a much more flawed and complicated person than the persona she portrayed in her autobiographical works, but in some ways I find that even more comforting when thinking about her theological views. (Also, she's my sixth cousin once removed, which I was tickled to discover.)

Nov 2: Have you ever considered moving because of an election result? Not seriously. Just because the other place is better now doesn't mean it'll be better in five or ten years; I could end up in a situation that's just as bad except I'm now older and trying to navigate an unfamiliar culture. Also, there are only two countries that I could relatively easily emigrate to due to family members living there; one is struggling with its own breed of politicians pushing towards far rightism, and could end up being a really terrible place to live if the US went in a particular direction of terrible itself. The other is holding its own for the moment, but I don't speak either of the official languages very well if at all; it'd be hard enough to find a job at my age if I were fluent, and without either of the languages it's not happening. (Same issue for a third country that I might be able to get into via Spouse's family connections. I don't speak the language, and even though lots of folks speak fluent English, I doubt I'd be able to find a job.)

Nov 3: Have you ever been disappointed by a screen adaptation of a favorite novel or story? FARAMIR IS NOT LIKE THAT IN THE BOOK, DAMN IT! MR. JACKSON, DID YOU EVEN READ THE TWO TOWERS? In other words, yes. To be fair, I do enjoy the LOTR movies, but I had to make myself think of them as a separate thing from the books; connected, but not the same work. We won't even start on the Rozema adaptation of Mansfield Park, which despite some intriguing ideas is an abomination unto Nuggan. Which is a pity, because I do admire the director's efforts to take the slavery in Antigua out of subtext. (I still maintain that Mansfield Park can only be properly adapted by Bollywood, or possibly by Broadway, because you need the song and dance numbers to convey what Fanny Price thinks and feels if you don't want to turn her into a lesser Mary Crawford.)
